From Kate Blessing, Director of SPED and Early Childhood

Parents as Teachers and Head Start joined forces in 2018-19 to support families with young children. As 2019 begins, the teams continue to collaborate and provide support and resources to Mexico families.

Over the course of the school year, multiple events were organized, including the October Family Night, where attendees decorated a pumpkin and made ghoulishly delicious snacks!  In November, Mexico PAT and WFSC provided a Family Resource Night with presenters Mrs. Christina McCaw Director of Social/Emotional Behavior from MPS and Devin Stewart Trauma Specialist from Williams Family Support Center. These experts provided information and tools for families to assist in managing unruly behavior in toddlers and how to recognize and provide support to children of trauma. In December, the two groups provided Christmas Fun, singing around the Christmas tree along with a book gift provided by WFSC, treats and a visit from a special elf, Santa Claus himself!

Parents as Teachers (PAT) and the Williams Family Support Center (WFSC) will continue to work together to provide support to our youngest members of our community. This school and community partnership will be offering upcoming events, including ‘Things That Go’ in May, working with Brooke Jameson of Mexico Parks and Recreation to bring vehicles of all shapes and sizes to explore and learn about how they help our community grow!
