Mexico Middle School

Mexico Middle School is proud to serve Mexico’s 6-8th grade students by executing our mission with fidelity daily:

Within our walls you will find first class teams of teachers and students working and learning together.  MMS faculty and staff are dedicated to helping our students grow into successful young adults.  Our vision for all of our students:

Educating, Engaging, & Empowering Students to Become Lifelong Learners

To drive our purpose we have two building goals for the 2017-2018 school year.

Goal 1:  75% of MMS students will meet their individualized reading goal by the end of the 2017 - 2018 school year.

Some of the action steps for this goal include:

  • Department Chairs participating in professional development with a focus on academic language as well as reading strategies and monitor implementation in departments.
  • Teachers will be doing a book study by Douglas Fisher, Nancy Frey and John Hattie that supports a specific set of instructional routines and strategies to match student's current levels of learning.  It focuses on analyzing the impact of these routines and modifying actions to improve learning.

Goal 2:  84% of MMS students will fall in the first tier of the behavioral triangle, earning zero to one discipline referrals, during the 2017 - 2018 school year.

Some of the action steps for this goal include:

  • Implementation of the Social Skills Curriculum, Second Steps.
  • Student participation in school belonginess survey.
  • Continued partnership with the Rose Behavior Center and the University of Missouri to work on tier 2 interventions that include small group social skills groups.

Summer School Happenings -

It is important to know that your child is here at school attending summer school.  Please call the school to let us know if your student will not be attending on any day they are out.  We look forward to teaching your student, and want to be sure we are looking out for their summer safety!  Knowing where your students are supposed to be helps us ensure we are all on the same page.  Please call 573-581-4664, extension 2800 to report summer school absence.  Nurse Emily will be taking your call!

Summer School Dress Code:

The middle school dress code is in effect during the summer.  You can read the full dress code in our middle school handbook.  Some of the items that our students sometimes question and need reminders about are: Shorts and skirts must be mid-thigh, no sagging pants, no tank tops with straps thinner than two inches, no undergarments showing, leggings must be worn with a dress or tunic that comes mid-thigh, and shirts must not have anything that is written or drawn that is disrepectful or alcohol or drug related.  In all, we ask that you come to school, ready to work, have fun and in good taste.  We will ask you to change if you come to school in clothes outside of our dress code, we'll try to find clothes from our PE stash, nurse's closet, but if no avail, we will call your parent's or guardian and they will have to come to provide a change a clothing.  Following the dress code is part of middle school responsibility and we thank you that you are doing your part to "Make Your Mind Stronger" by starting out your day responsibly.

MMS Football:

There is MMS Monday Night Football beginning Monday June 5 and continuing through June.  It runs 6:00 - 7:30 pm.  If you are playing Middle School Football, you are encouraged to come out and participate with your team.

Middle School Handbook:

Thank you parents and students for taking the time to familiarize yourselves with our Middle School Handbook.  We are really happy to have our students in compliance with dress code and electronic policies.  When students are focused on learning they are more apt to be able to succeed in school.  Your partnership helps us to live our Vision - "Educating, Engaging, & Empowering Students to Become Lifelong Learners."

Students, our school opens at 7:30 am.  Only those students who ride a Mexico School bus may enter earlier.  If these conditions do not apply to you, then you may not arrive on school grounds before 7:30 am.

Parents, please have this in your morning plans as we do not have supervision for your children until this time.  Students cannot be standing around outside the building unsupervised.  So make your plans with your family beforehand.

Students, arrive on time, prepared and ready for to learn.

"Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow. "Anthony J. D'Angelo

To our MMS family:

"Family consists of people that love and Family consists of people that love and care about each other mutually, and no matter what our background is, we can have people to call family." John Shea, Strategic Empathy

Attendance Matters:
