HCC Student Spotlight: Taylor Wyman, Senior of Mexico High School, Cyber Support & Networking

Taylor Wyman works diligently to solve the cyber security lesson in class.

Recommended by Mr. Craig Knight, teacher for Cyber Support & Networking program.

Taylor has a good work ethic and has been successful in setting up her own classroom network. She works well alone or with others and has helped out first year students in the program.

Taylor will be working on more advanced cybersecurity topics as the year progresses, and she will also be preparing for industry certification during the second semester. Taylor has entered the workforce and is currently employed in an after-school job at McDonalds, where she is getting some real world experience in developing her customer service skills.
Taylor will seek an apprenticeship with the Mexico 59 School District for second semester field work experience.

Career in Focus: Cyber Support & Networking

Do you ever wonder how your computer or laptop work? How does it know to do what you’re telling it to do? If you ever ask yourself these questions and you’re looking for a fun and interactive class that not only will help you in high school, but also post high school, then the Cyber Support and Networking Program at Hart Career Center is the perfect class for you. This class teaches students about different technology like computers and laptops, and what goes into these devices that makes them do what they do. We all enjoy different personal devices such as laptops, Ipads/tablets, and even our cell phones. But there is a lot that goes into these devices to make them function. This program at Hart Career Center teaches students the basics of how these devices work and how they are networked.
Abigail Stitt, a senior from North Callaway high school says, “this class teaches students the fundamentals of modern computers and how to interact with them.” Stitt explained to me how the class overall has a good work environment and the teacher, Mr. Knight, is an amazing teacher. She said, “Mr. Knight doesn’t bombard us with work and gives us plenty of time to get our work done.”

Connor Bethel works to repair a computer.
Even if you aren’t good with technology, this class provides students with important skills like problem solving and critical thinking. Connor Bethel, a student at Montgomery County RII high school said, “this program is a very hands-on program and the class has a good-work flow.” This program also can branch into many other job fields and programs at Hart Career Center. So, even if you’re not thinking about being an IT or computer programmer, this program provides students with not only a good work environment but skills they will use for life.

All funds raised by HCC stay local to support MU Children's Health in Columbia.

The team kicked off the week with eight-hour Twitch streams on Saturday and Sunday, which raised almost $700. During the school week, they had daily treat sales thanks to the generosity of team families and HCC staff. The Twitch streams continued almost every day after school with an ongoing D&D campaign.
