School board filing will begin in December 2024. Board candidates will be listed on the ballot in order of filing.

Two seats will be on the ballot in April 2025, currently held by Nicole Jahn and Scott Nichols.

 

District voters elect two members to a three-year term, and every third year, three members are elected. School board elections are held the first Tuesday after the first Monday in April; the next election will be April 8, 2025.

Eligibility to serve on the Board

To be eligible for election, a school board candidate must be: 

  • a U.S. citizen
  • a resident taxpayer of the Mexico Public School District
  • a resident of Missouri and the district for at least one year
  • at least 24 years old

 

Candidates must also: 

  • Be current on state and local taxes
  • Have not been found guilty of or pled guilty to a felony under Missouri or federal law
  • Have not registered or requred to register as a sex offender
  • Have filed required campaign documents for all previous campaings, if any

The Mexico School District encourages qualified persons interested in running for a position on the School Board to file to be a candidate in the April 8, 2025 election. Interested persons may file at Central Office located at 2101 Lakeview Road, Mexico, MO 65265. Please see Kaity Baker, Secretary to the Board of Education. Filing will begin on December 10, 2024 from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM and will continue on regular business days from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Filing will end on December 31, 2024 at 5:00 PM. The filing times for December 31, 2024 will be from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Candidates filing on the last day should arrive by 4:30 PM to make sure the filing process is completed by the 5 PM deadline. Required documents must be checked and the declaration of candidacy, including signature, must be completed by 5 PM. 

 

Filing will not occur on days the school district’s Central Office is closed due to inclement weather or other health-related reasons. Filing will also not occur on the following holidays and breaks when the school district’s Central Office is closed: December 24, 2024, December 25, 2024, and December 26, 2024. The names of qualified candidates will be placed on the ballot in order of filing.
