Students Take the Lead: MHS Launches Student Advisory Council

October 7, 2025 – Fourteen Mexico High School students visited Central Office for their first lunch meeting with Superintendent Dr. Troy Lentz and Principal Brad Ellebracht.
The Student Advisory Council is made up of Bulldogs involved in the MHS Teen Outreach Program (TOP Club). The group’s goal is to represent student voices, strengthen communication between students, staff, and the community, and work together to build a positive, inclusive school culture that prepares students for future success.
TOP Club teacher facilitators, Jennifer Warbritton and Drew Widaman, are partnered with C2C liaisons Sherri Chedwick and Eric DeVenney to plan the Council meetings.
Through this project, Warbritton is witnessing engagement and excitement for student voice. “They have great ideas and a lot of passion, and it’s even better watching them work with staff and community partners to lift up other students’ voices, too. We love that we are able to provide them the opportunity and space to lead and make things happen.”
Students shared both challenges and concerns about current facilities and procedures, offering thoughtful solutions based on research and conversations with their peers. They also highlighted the positive impact of high school teachers, coaches, and learning spaces that support their success.
Principal Brad Ellebracht reflected with the group, noting how emotions and experiences influence perspective. “How you feel about an experience at school can affect how you feel about your entire day.”
The Council plans to visit with Dr. Lentz and Mr. Ellebracht again throughout the school year, as well as hold monthly meetings with various community stakeholders.
The mission of the Student Advisory Council is a group committed to listening, leading, and taking action to make our school a place where all students feel heard, supported, and prepared for future success in life beyond high school.
Goals include:
- Speak Up: Share student ideas with teachers, administrators, and the community.
- Build Culture: Create activities that bring positivity, pride, and kindness to our school.
- Get Future-Ready: Practice leadership, teamwork, communication skills, and problem-solving to prepare for college and careers.
- Serve & Connect: Work together on projects that strengthen both our school and community.
