April 9, 2026 – Community leadership and education came together this month as participants in the Mexico Area Chamber of Commerce Leadership Mexico program spent a full day learning across two local institutions.
The group began their day at Missouri Military Academy, where they were welcomed by General Richard V. Geraci. Participants enjoyed lunch before taking a guided tour led by Greg Seibert, offering a behind-the-scenes look at campus life, including the mess hall, dorms, activity center, and gymnasium.
In the afternoon, the group visited the Hart Career Center, part of Mexico Public Schools. Director Chris Denham led a tour highlighting the wide range of programs available to students, all designed to prepare them for future careers and real-world success. Mexico Public Schools and Missouri Military Academy are among nine sending schools that provide students access to these hands-on learning opportunities.
The day concluded with remarks from Superintendent Dr. Troy Lentz and Assistant Superintendent Julie Welch, who shared insights on the district’s work and emphasized the important role education plays in strengthening the community.
A total of 20 participants from local businesses took part in the session, including Mexico Public Schools staff members Dawn Malone, Director of Business Operations, and Amber Henderson, Director of Human Resources. The day’s Leadership Mexico session was led by Marci Orr, Director of Communications for Mexico Public Schools.
Leadership Mexico is a six-month program held March through August that focuses on developing community leaders and building stronger connections across the city. Participants meet monthly to gain a deeper understanding of local systems, broaden their perspectives, and explore ways to stay actively involved in shaping Mexico’s future.
This experience reflects the strong partnership between schools, local organizations, and community leaders—working together to support students, invest in staff leadership, and strengthen the future of Mexico.
