New secure entrance takes shape at MHS

September 17, 2026 – Construction at Mexico High School is becoming much easier to see as work continues on the new secure entrance and office area along the circle drive. The project is part of the Paws for Progress bond issue approved by voters in April 2024 and is designed to improve the way visitors enter and check in at Mexico High School.
Currently, visitors enter the building and then travel through the school to reach the main office. When construction is complete, the high school offices will be located directly inside the new entrance. Visitors will be able to enter, check in with staff, and complete their business in one secure area before entering the rest of the school. This updated design will create a safer and more welcoming check-in process for parents, families, community members, and other visitors while also helping staff better manage access to the building.
Over the summer, much of the progress happened where it was harder to see. Crews prepared the site and completed foundation work, including a recent concrete pour. During the past week, the structure has started going up above ground, making the progress much more visible from the circle drive.
Summer rain caused the project to experience a slight delay of approximately two weeks, but construction continues to move forward. The new entrance and office area are currently expected to be completed around January.
A reminder about bond funding: This project was specifically included in the Paws for Progress bond issue approved by voters in April 2024. Bond dollars are designated for the facility projects outlined in the ballot language and are paid through the district’s capital projects fund. These funds are for projects such as this secure entrance and cannot be used for regular operating expenses.
The project is one of several facility improvements being completed through the 2024 Paws for Progress bond. We appreciate our community’s continued support and investment in safe, updated spaces for our students, staff, families, and visitors.
